Our client, a global law firm is seeking an experienced Technology and Privacy Partner for their growing Sydney office.
The ideal candidate will act as a trusted advisor to clients, guiding them through high-stakes digital transformations, complex commercial transactions, and evolving cybersecurity regulatory environments.
As a Partner, you will leverage your deep expertise in Australian privacy frameworks to deliver strategic compliance, risk management, and incident response solutions while driving business development for the firm.
Key Responsibilities
Strategic Advisory & Governance
- Boardroom Counsel: Advise senior management teams and corporate boards on emerging trends, risk postures, and the design of robust digital governance structures.
- Compliance Frameworks: Review, design, and implement comprehensive compliance programs, including developing policies, processes, and data-handling procedures.
- Risk Auditing: Oversee detailed audits of clients' existing data-handling practices, information systems, and regulatory readiness.
Technology Transactions & Digital Transformation
- Advise on digital transformation projects, complex commercial technology transactions, and the commercialization of digital services.
- IT Infrastructure: Guide clients through high-value procurement projects, outsourcing arrangements, and the design and implementation of complex IT systems.
Incident Response & Regulatory Liaison
- Data Breach Management: Lead multi-disciplinary crisis response teams (including digital forensics, technology experts, and PR/communications) to manage data breaches and security incidents.
- Support clients through complex inquiries from regulators and handle formal complaints from individuals.
Qualifications & Technical Expertise
- Legal Qualifications: Admitted to practice as a lawyer in Australia with an unrestricted practicing certificate.
- Privacy Framework Mastery: Demonstrated expert-level knowledge of all local privacy laws.
- Commercial Tech Experience: Extensive experience structuring complex IT procurement, outsourcing, and digital transformation agreements.
Leadership & Business Acumen
- Practice Leadership: Proven track record of managing legal teams, mentoring junior lawyers, and overseeing complex, multi-disciplinary projects.
- Business Development: A strong professional network with a demonstrated ability to generate new business, secure client instructions, and expand existing corporate accounts.
- Crisis Management: Calm under pressure with experience coordinating rapid-response teams during high-stakes cybersecurity incidents.
