Legal Counsel – Construction & Projects - Sydney
Yvonne Kelly • October 20, 2026
An exciting opportunity has arisen for an Australian-qualified Construction Lawyer to join the in-house legal team of a global leader in the energy and services sector. Supporting major construction, engineering and infrastructure projects, this role offers the chance to work closely with commercial and project teams on complex, high-value matters, including renewable energy initiatives.
Reporting to the Head of Legal, you will provide commercially focused legal advice across the project lifecycle, from tendering and contract negotiation through to delivery, claims and dispute resolution.
Key responsibilities include:
- Drafting, reviewing and negotiating EPC contracts, subcontracts, consultancy agreements, supply agreements, O&M agreements and other commercial arrangements.
- Advising on contractual obligations, risk allocation, variations, extensions of time, defects, payment and security issues.
- Supporting the management of claims and disputes, including adjudications, mediations, arbitrations and litigation.
- Providing broader corporate and commercial advice, supporting governance, regulatory compliance and the development of legal templates and processes.
About You
You are an Australian-admitted lawyer with 3–5 years’ post-admission experience (PAE) in construction, infrastructure, engineering or energy, gained in private practice and/or in-house.
You will bring strong construction contract drafting and negotiation skills, sound knowledge of Australian construction law, and experience supporting project delivery and dispute resolution. Commercially minded and pragmatic, you can communicate complex legal issues clearly, manage competing priorities and build effective relationships with stakeholders.
The organisation is committed to diversity, inclusion and workplace safety, welcoming applications from candidates of all backgrounds.
